Patz Leads the Charge for the Musketeers

CRYSTAL RIVER, Fla.- The Xavier women’s golf team had an impressive first round at the 2012 UC Spring Invitational with a score of 304 (+16). The Musketeers are currently in fourth place in the 19-team field. Every Xavier member shot 10-over-par or better on Friday.
Junior Breanna Patz had a strong outing shooting a one-over-par 73 and finished the day tied for third. Patz tied her season-low with her first round 73, and has shot an 80 or better in 10-consecutive rounds. Sophomore Kristin Tan fired an opening round 75 and is tied for 15th place. Senior Michelle Winkler is tied for 27th in the field of 102 competitors with a score of 77 (+5).
Freshman Abby Smith shot a seven-over-par 79 and is tied in 46th place. Sophomore Christine Cash finished with an 82 (+10) and finds herself tied for 69th place.
Only five strokes separate Xavier with the second place team, Stetson. Florida International is currently in first with a team score of 290 (+2) and had the top scorer, Shelby Coyle, who fired a three-under-par 69.
