CINCINNATI-- The Xavier baseball team suffered two losses at the hands of Saint Louis in both games of Sunday's double-header at Hayden Field. SLU topped XU 8-2 in the first game and took game two 1-0 in the top of the ninth. With the losses, XU fell to 15-21 overall and 5-4 in the A-10. The Billikens improved to 24-11 overall and 7-4 in A-10 action.
Jon Richard was pegged with the loss in 5.1 innings in game one while Alex Vice fell to 3-3 with the loss in game two.
SLU got off to a hot start with a two-run home run in the top of the first in game one and never looked back. The Billikens scored twice in the fourth and seventh and added single runs in the sixth and ninth to take the 8-2 decision in Sunday's first contest.
In the second game, redshirt junior starter Tyler Koors posted a strong outing of 6.2 shutout innings before handing the ball over to Vice in the seventh.
SLU got the lead-off man aboard in the top of the ninth and drove in the lone run of the game with a RBI single to take the 1-0 lead. XU threatened in the bottom of the ninth but it was not to be as XU fell to SLU in the series-clinching contest.
The Musketeers travel to Ohio State Tuesday for a non-conference matchup at 6:35 p.m. XU returns to conference play Friday, April 20 as the Musketeers face Rhode Island in a three-game series. First pitch from URI is set for 3 p.m.
