Homestand Concludes With 58-54 Loss to Butler

​CINCINNATI - The Xavier women's basketball team ended its three-game homestand with a 58-54 loss to Butler on Sunday afternoon at Cintas Center. The Bulldogs extended their win streak to seven games, while the Musketeers dropped their second straight contest.
The Musketeers (12-8, 4-5 BIG EAST) led 52-50 with 5:26 left in regulation before the Bulldogs (11-9, 7-2 BIG EAST) ended the game on an 8-2 run. Butler scored eight points off of four Xavier turnovers down the stretch to pick up the win. All told, the Bulldogs scored 28 points off of 24 Xavier miscues.
A Raeshaun Gaffney basket gave the Musketeers an early 2-0 advantage to start the contest before the Bulldogs went 6-of-6 from the floor to take their largest lead of the game, 13-2, with 15:54 on the clock. The Musketeers battled back to regain their first lead of the game, 26-25, with 4:51 before intermission.
Xavier led 32-28 on a Briana Glover layup at the 2:51 mark, but the Bulldogs closed the half on a 4-1 run to get within one, 33-32, at the break. Xavier dropped its first game of the season when leading at the half, moving to 9-1.
The Musketeers were 12-of-24 from the floor in the first period and 5-of-9 from behind the arc. Jenna Crittendon and Aliyah Zantt led XU at the break with eight points each.
Butler hit 57.7 percent of its shots in the first half, led by Ijeoma Uchendu who had 14 points. The Bulldogs held a 13-12 advantage on the glass at halftime.
The Bulldogs opened the second stanza on a 6-3 run to regain a 38-37 lead at the 15:47 mark before Crittendon scored 10 straight points for XU, giving the Musketeers their largest lead of the game, 47-38. The Musketeers held onto the lead until the contest was tied, 50-50, with 5:57 left on the clock.
Crittendon finished with a season-high 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting, including three 3-pointers. Glover added 11 and Gaffney had 10. XU was 12-of-16 from the charity stripe with Glover going 7-of-10.
Uchendu led all scorers with 22 points on 10-of-19 shooting, while Loryn Goodwin and Blaire Langlois chipped in 11 and 10 for the Bulldogs. Langlois also dished out a game-high five assists.
Xavier had nine more rebounds than Butler on the night, 33-24, led by Crittendon who had seven. Belle Obert led Butler with seven rebounds.
The Musketeers return to action at Creighton on Friday, Jan. 30. Tip-off is slated for 8 p.m. ET.
