Women's Basketball Drops Road Contest at Seton Hall

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Xavier women’s basketball had its three-game BIG EAST win streak snapped at Seton Hall on Friday night, falling 78-54 at Walsh Gymnasium. Turnovers proved costly as the Pirates were able to convert 22 Musketeer turnovers into 24 points.
The Musketeers moved to 11-5 (3-2 BIG EAST), while the Pirates improved to 14-2 (3-1 BIG EAST) and remained undefeated at home this season. Seton Hall also extended its home win streak to 14 games.
The two teams exchanged baskets on their first two possessions of the game before the Pirates used a 13-4 run to take a 17-8 advantage with 13:42 on the clock. Seton Hall never trailed in the game and led again led by nine, 29-20, at the 8:21 mark. Xavier responded with an 11-2 run capped by a Maddison Blackwell layup to knot the game at 31 with just under four minutes before intermission.
Seton Hall closed the half on an 8-2 run to take a 39-33 advantage into the locker room. The Musketeers committed 11 turnovers in the first period that the Pirates converted into 14 points. XU held a 26-23 advantage on the glass at the break.
Maleeka Kynard scored the first eight points of the second half for Xavier as the Musketeers used an 8-4 run to get within two, 43-41, with 16:16 on the clock. The Pirates scored eight unanswered points to take their first double-figure lead of the contest, 51-41, at the 13:16 mark.
Seton Hall eventually led by as many as 24, 78-54, down the stretch as the Pirates limited the Musketeers to only three points in the final 8:33 of the game. XU finished the game 21-of-64 from the floor, including a .241 field-goal percentage in the second half.
Kynard finished with a team-high 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting, with all her points coming in the second half. Kindell Fincher added 12 points and Blackwell had eight.
The Pirates won the battle on the glass, 51-47. Briana Glover and Aliyah Zantt both pulled down six rebounds to pace XU.
Ka-Deidre Simmons was one of five Seton Hall players in double figures with a game-high 19 points. The senior guard also dished out a game-high six rebounds. Daisha Simmons scored 10 points with a game-high 13 rebounds.
Xavier finished the game 5-of-9 from the foul line, its second fewest attempts of the year, while Seton Hall went 9-of-10 from the charity stripe.
