Balanced Offense Leads Musketeers to Five-Set Win at Seton Hall

Four players post double-figure kills, XU records a season-high 10 service aces
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Xavier volleyball used a balanced offense and a season-high 10 services aces to post a come-from-behind five-set victory (20-25, 19-25, 31-29, 25-17, 15-11) at Seton Hall on Saturday night.

Xavier trailed in the match, 2-0, before the comeback as the Musketeers improved to 9-8 (5-2 BIG EAST) on the year. The Pirates dropped to 9-10 (3-4 BIG EAST).

Abbey Bessler led four players with 10 or more kills, recording a match-high 18 kills to go along with 17 digs - her ninth double-double of the year. The junior outside hitter also posted a career-high five service aces.

Kristen Massa added 13 kills, while Sofia Peterson and Makayla Agin chipped in 12 and 11, respectively. Lauren Frilling and Brooke Betts both finished with six kills.

Defensively, the Musketeers had 11 blocks - their second most in a match this season. Massa posted a career-high five blocks to pace Xavier at the net, while Betts and Frilling both added four.

McKena Estes was one dig shy of posting her fourth double-double of the year as the freshman setter had a team-high 30 assists to go along with nine digs. Mackenzi Humm added 27 assists and nine digs.

Seton Hall recorded a solid .385 hitting percentage in the first two sets of the match, winning the frames 25-20 and 25-19. The Pirates took advantage of 16 attacking errors by Xavier in the first two stanzas.

The Musketeers responded by only committing six attacking errors over the final three sets of play.

The third set had seven ties and two lead changes with the final tie at 29-29. An Agin kill followed by a Bessler service ace sealed the 31-29 set three victory. Bessler had six kills and three service aces in the set.

In the fourth set, the Musketeers took advantage of 11 Seton Hall errors and posted half of their total blocks on the night to win the stanza, 25-17.
