Swimming Takes on a Pair of Local Rivals this Weekend

Musketeers face UC, CSU at Cincinnati on Friday, Travel to Miami Saturday
CINCINNATI – The Musketeer men's and women's swim team will stay local as they travel to a pair of opponents this weekend. Xavier begins the weekend across town at Cincinnati where the Musketeers will face off with the host Bearcats, as well as Cleveland State, with events set to begin at 5:00 p.m. at Keating Aquatics Center. Friday's meet will be streamed through UC's GoBearcats.com BearcatsTV.
Xavier returns to the pool on Saturday when they travel up the road to Oxford, Ohio to face off with Miami at 2:00 p.m at the Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center. Stay tuned to GoXavier.com for results.

The Musketeer women were last in action on Friday, Oct. 9 at Louisville. Mackenna Rife opened the individual events for the Musketeer by taking third in the 1,000 free with a time of 10:36.53. Several newcomers entered the Xavier record books with top-20 times, including Jenna Wilkes (1,000 free) Katie Kerr (200 free), Caroline Gaertner (100 back/200 back), Annie Cummins (100 fly/200 fly), Becca Titterton (100 breast) and Maggie Kauffeld (200 fly). The final score on the women's side was 173-83 in favor of the Cardinals.
The Musketeers will face a Cincinnati squad who was last in action two weeks ago at Indiana on Oct. 1. The Bearcat women fell, 186-105 to the Hoosiers. UC's Jacqueline Keire grabbed an individual win in the 50 free with a time of 23.58. Keire also grabbed second in the 200 free (1:49.06) and 500 free (5:03.10). Last season against the Bearcats, the Musketeer women fell, 142.5 to 114.5, at UC.
Cleveland State will also face off with the Bearcats and the Musketeers in their first dual meet of the season. The Vikings, who finished seventh in the Horizon League last season, traveled to the Splash Bash on Sept. 26 to open the 2015-16 season. Last season, the Xavier women topped Cleveland State, 163-117, in a meet at CSU with Oakland.

Xavier was last in action on Friday, Oct. 9 when the Musketeers traveled to Louisville. Alex Wolfred opened the individual events with a strong showing in the 1,000 free, taking third with a time of 9:55.72. The men closed the event with a tightly contested 400 free relay, where the Musketeer 'A' team of Rodrigo Suriano, Matt Nephew, Enrique Hernandez and Luke Johanns posted a time of 3:06.40, to be narrowly out-touched by the Cardinals' 'A' team to take the second spot. The men posted a final score of 78 to Louisville's score of 179.
Xavier takes on a UC squad that opened its season two weeks ago at IU. The Cincinnati men fell, 157-135 to the Hoosiers, and collected top finishes in the 100 fly (Eitan Holder – 50.58), the 200 fly (Ryan Depierto – 1:57.37) and the 200 breast (Tyler Roehr – 2:06.14). UC's Chris Bready also grabbed a pair of wins in the 500 free (4:33.55) and 1000 free (9:17.16). Last season against the Bearcats, the Xavier men fell, 164-93 at UC.
Joining UC and Xavier is a Cleveland State squad that finished sixth in the Horizon League last season. This is the first meet of 2015-16 for the Vikings. Last season, the Musketeer men fell to the Vikings, 174-114, in a meet at CSU with Oakland.
