
Swimming Heads to Miami for Second Meet of the Weekend

CINCINNATI - After facing off with Cincinnati and Clevleand state to open the weekend, Xavier returns to the pool on Saturday when they travel up the road to Oxford, Ohio to face off with Miami at 2:00 p.m at the Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center. Stay tuned to GoXavier.com for results.

The Musketeer women posted a strong performance at UC with Cleveland State, opening the meet by taking third in the 200 medley relay. Mackenna Rife (1000 free, 500 free), Claire Brolsma (50 free), Caroline Gaertner (100 back, 200 back) and Paxtyn Drew (200 back) each collected top-three finishes. Several other Musketeers set personal records that stand in the Xavier top 20 times. The women closed the event with Brolsma, Drew, Molly Ford and Laura Dicus taking first in the 200 free relay.
After a final tune up for the season with the Red and White Intrasquad Meet on Sept. 26, the Miami women opened their season on Friday night against Purdue before hosting the Musketeers on Saturday. The Redhawk women fell, 185-106, against the Boilermakers. Stephanie LeMire led the way for Miami on Friday, taking the top spot in the 200 breast with a time of 2:19.18.
The Redhawks were picked to finish third in the preseason MAC poll after finishing fifth at last year's MAC Championship. Last season, Miami topped Xavier, 145-102, at Miami.

The Xavier men also opened Friday night's meet with Cincinnati and Cleveland State with a third place finish in the 200 medley relay. Luke Johanns took the top spot in the 50 yard free with a time of 20.79, and also grabbed a third place finish in the 100 free, time of 46.96, coming in just behind second place Rodrigo Suriano's time of 46.44.Â
The Musketeer men collected a number of other top-three finishes, including Nick Strader (1000 free) and Alex Wolfred (200 free, 500 free), and several other Musketeers posted new Xavier record times. The Xavier men also closed the evening by taking first in the 200 medley relay with Luke Johanns, Suriano, Enrique Hernandez and Tony Miller posting a time of 1:23.67.
