Musketeers Faced Miami in Second Meet of Weekend

OXFORD, Ohio – The Xavier men and women's swimming program traveled up the road to Miami for the second meet of the weekend after facing UC and Cleveland State at Cincinnati on Friday evening. The Musketeers fell on both the men's and women's side but collected a number of Xavier record performances.
On the women's side, Katie Kerr took second in the 1,000 free, setting the 11th fastest time in XU history after touching the wall in 10:44.04. Jenna Wilkes followed her in with a time of 10:45.29 for third place.
In the 100 fly, Caroline Gaertner set the 11th fastest time in school history, finishing in a time of 58.86.
The women finished with a score of 96 to Miami's 144.
For the men, the Musketeers opened with a strong performance in the 400 medley relay, taking first with a time of 3:31.20 with the 'A' team of Rodrigo Suriano, Michael Pettinichi, Erik Biernat and Luke Johanns.
In individual events, Alex Wolfred moved up to 10th all-time in Xavier records with a time of 9:48.49, good for third place in the 1,000 free
The Musketeers grabbed two of the top three spots in the 50 free, with Rodrigo Suriano touching in 21.40 for second place. Luke Johanns followed him in with a time of 21.58 for third.
Suriano followed his strong performance in the 50 free with a first place finish in the 100 free, with a time of 46.86.
Several other Musketeer men scored in the top three. Nathan Runyon's time of 1:58.25 in the 200 back scored as a first place finish, as did Rob Van Kirk's time of 2:11.53 in the 200 breast. Van Kirk was followed in by Matthew Dyer who scored in second place with a time of 2:14.14. Chase Baldwin posted a third place time in the 400 IM, finishing in 4:17.15.
The men were topped 159-98 on the final score sheet.
Xavier heads to West Virgina next weekend where they will face off with the Mountainers and BIG EAST rivals on Oct. 23 and 24.
