Men’s Golf Heads to Akron for Firestone Invitational

Akron, Ohio – The Xavier men's golf team travels to Akron tomorrow for the Firestone Invitational. The 16-team event will be held at the North Course of the Firestone Country Club, playing 7,125 yards and is a par 72.
The 16 team field includes the host team Akron, Ball State, Eastern Kentucky, Eastern Michigan, Francis Marion, Georgetown, Illinois State, Maryland, Ohio, Old Dominion, South Carolina-Aiken, Toledo, Valparaiso, Western Kentucky, William & Mary and Xavier.
Sophomore Jose Montaño is the defending champion. The Bolivia native shot a 212 (-4) over three rounds to medal. Xavier, as a team, finished second after posting an overall score of 877 (+13).
Xavier was last in action September 21-22 when the team finished eighth at the Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic in South Bend. Freshman Daniel Wetterich continued his hot start to his freshman season as he finished tied for seventh individually.
The 54-hole tournament is scheduled to begin on Monday at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start and continuous play for 36 holes. Tuesday's final round is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. with split tee times on holes 1 and 10.
