Xavier wins third straight BIG EAST match, moves to 9-3 in conference play
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Xavier volleyball won its third straight BIG EAST Conference match on Saturday night, defeating Providence College in five sets (24-26, 25-21, 25-17, 26-28, 15-6) at Alumni Hall. The Musketeers improve to 9-3 in conference play and 13-10 overall.

Laura Grossman matched her career high for the second time in as many contests to lead the Xavier offense, finishing the night with 14 kills and a .303 hitting percentage. The Musketeers posted a .230 hitting percentage, while limiting the Friars to a .150 attacking percentage.

Abbey Bessler added her 48th career double-double with 12 kills and 13 digs. The junior outside hitter now has exactly 1,000 career digs, becoming the 12th member of the Xavier 1,000 kills-1,000 digs club.

Makayla Agin added 12 kills and a .360 hitting percentage in the win, while Kristen Massa chipped in nine kills. Brooke Betts also hit .600 with seven kills.

Defensively, Betts posted a career high in kills for the second straight match, collecting nine block assists. Xavier had seven more blocks (12-5) than Providence - the Musketeers second consecutive match with 10 or more blocks and fourth match of the season eclipsing the mark.

McKena Estes also matched her career high for the second time in as many contest, dishing out a team-high 31 assists. Mackenzi Humm added 22 assists and 13 digs, while Meredith Klare posted a match-high 22 digs in the win.

Xavier also had five more service aces (9-4) than the Friars, paced by Estes and Grossman who both had three.

The match featured 22 ties and 13 lead changes. Tied at two, the Musketeers opened the decisive fifth set on an 8-3 run on their way to a 15-6 victory. Xavier had nine kills in the final set with three coming from Bessler.

The Musketeers return to action on Friday, Nov. 6 against Seton Hall. First serve is slated for 7 p.m. from Cintas Center.
