Musketeers Use Strong First Half to Defeat Binghamton

CINCINNATI - Xavier women's basketball used a strong first half to hold off a late rally by Binghamton, defeating the Bearcats, 64-55, on Saturday afternoon. The Musketeers move to 4-1 on the year.

Binghamton (2-4) erased a 20-point halftime deficit to get as close as six points, 57-51, with 2:30 left in regulation. The Musketeers went 1-for-2 from the floor and 5-for-6 from the foul line down the stretch to seal the 64-55 win.

Xavier opened the game on an 11-0 run on 5-of-8 shooting before pushing its lead to 21-4 at the end of the first period. The Musketeers held the Bearcats to one field goal in the opening period and scored six points off of five turnovers.

Xavier built its largest lead of the game, 34-10, with 2:16 left in the first half before posting a 34-14 advantage at the break. The Musketeers hit 42.9 percent of their shots in the first half, while limiting Binghamton to an 18.5 percent clip.

Briana Glover led Xavier at halftime with eight points on 4-for-7 shooting. Glover and Partlow led Xavier on the boards with six each as the Musketeers held a 30-13 advantage on the glass.

Glover scored a team-high 14 points on 7-for-14 shooting, while Raeshaun Gaffney rounded out the double-figure scores with 13 points. Partlow, Aliyah Zantt and Marquia Turner all had eight points for Xavier.

Xavier held a 50-31 advantage on the glass, led by Glover's nine rebounds. Leah Schaefer and Partlow both pulled down eight.

Kim Albrecht led Binghamton with 20 points, while Alyssa James added 15 points, 11 rebounds and a school-record nine blocks.Â

Xavier returns to action on Dec. 3 against Tennessee Tech. Tip-off is slated for noon from Cintas Center. The game will serve as 'Field Trip Day' with over 2,500 elementary students expected to be in attendance.Â
