
Swimming Heads to Denison for Saturday Dual Meet

CINCINNATI - After a two-week hiatus from competition, the Xavier swimming program is back in action on Saturday, Nov. 7, heading north to Denison to face the Big Red for a dual meet. Events are scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. Live results and live video of the event will be available through Denison's website, DenisonBigRed.com.

The Musketeers were last in action at the Big 12 vs. BIG EAST Weekend at West Virginia on Oct. 23 through Oct. 24. The Xavier women defeated Seton Hall, 191-158, and Butler, 260-71, while falling to WVU, 266-93.
Freshman Katie Kerr posted a number of top-three finishes, including in the 500 free (third - 5:08.40) fastest time in XU records. Kerr also posted a second place finish in the 1,650 free (second -17:57.86) and in the 800 free relay with Jenna Wilkes, Taylor Jach and Mackenna Rife, taking second with a time of 7:53.76.
Xavier took three of the top five spots in the 200 fly, with Maggie Kauffeld taking second with a time of 2:11.32, the 14th fastest time in Xavier records. Annie Cummins took third with a time of 2:11.89 and Jenna Wilkes finished fifth with a time of 2:14.26.
Claire Brolsma also collected a second place finish in the 50 free with a time of 25.17.
The Denison Women are coming of a 2-1 finish in a quad meet at the University of Chicago with the University of Illinois-Chicago and Northwestern. The Big Red defeated the hosts, Chicago (193-107), and the University of Illinois-Chicago (159-140) while falling to Northwestern (221-89).
The Big Red were led by sophomore All-American Halli Garza, who posted the team's only event victory by winning the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:04.02. Garza would also finish fourth in the 100 fly (57.93) and fourth in the 200 IM (2:10.43). There were four NCAA 'B' cut times turned in by the Denison women in Chicago.
The Big Red will face Ohio State on Friday evening before facing off with the Musketeers on Saturday afternoon.

The Xavier men were last in action during the Big 12 vs. BIG EAST Weekend at WVU on Oct. 23-24, finishing the event with a 177-154 win over Seton Hall and a 251-108 loss to West Virginia.
The Musketeer men were led by Luke Johanns, who collected six top-three finishes at the Big 12 vs. BIG EAST Weekend to earn the BIG EAST Swimmer of the Week. Johann's finishes include a first place finish in the 50 free (20.79) and in the 400 free relay (3:08.38) that out-touched WVU's 'A' team by over a second (3:09.91).
Johanns also took part in the 200 medley relay (1:36.38), 200 free relay (1:24.45) and 400 medley relay (3:30.32) that led BIG EAST teams into the wall. In the 100 free, Johanns took third with a time of 47.43, following in teammate Rodrigo Suriano who took second with a time of 46.98.
The Denison men are coming off a quad meet at the University of Chicago on Oct. 24 that saw the Big Red defeated the host Maroons (170-124) but fall to University of Illinois-Chicago (151-149) and Northwestern University (222-78).
At Chicago DU was led by Stuart Hohm and Jack Lindell, who each placed third in an event to lead the Denison swimmers. Hohm took third in the 500 free with a time of 4:51.62. In the 200 backstroke, Lindell took third with a time of 1:56.04.
Denison will face Ohio State on Friday evening before hosting the Musketeers.
