Bluiett’s Double-Double Helps No. 12 Musketeers Top WKU, 95-64

Musketeers shoot over 50% from the floor for second straight game
CINCINNATI – A balanced offensive effort, led by 21 points from Trevon Bluiett led No. 12 Xavier to a 95-64 win over Western Kentucky in front of a sellout crowd at Cintas Center on Saturday evening, moving the Musketeers to 8-0 on the season.
Bluiett finished with 21 points, matching his career high set at DePaul on Jan. 24, 2015, and grabbed 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the season and the third of his career.
Bluiett's 21 led five Musketeers in double figures as Xavier topped the 90 point mark for the second straight game. James Farr added 18 on 7-for-11 shooting. Myles Davis added 16 while Jalen Reynolds and Edmond Sumner added 12 apiece.
The Musketeers finished the game shooting 57.1 percent from the floor, including going 25-of-40 on two-point field goals, to follow up a 52.4 percent shooting performance in the 90-61 win over Dayton on Sunday.
Xavier held the Hilltoppers to 38.7 percent shooting from the floor, including just 5-of-22 on threes after WKU entered the game averaging over 42 percent from beyond the arc.
Seven Musketeers entered the scoring column in the first half as Xavier steadily built its advantage. XU shot 50.0 percent from the floor in the first period, including going 12-of-20 on two-point field goals, while holding Western Kentucky to just 34.4 percent shooting before the break.
Xavier built the lead out to as many as 16, 44-28, just before the half expired. Bluiett's 13 points led all scorers in the first half. Farr hit four of his first five shots and went 4-of-4 from the free throw for 12 first-half points.
Xavier owned a 23-14 advantage on the boards in the first period, with Bluiett and Sean O'Mara each grabbing four before the break.
Out of the break, WKU cut the lead down to 10 before back-to-back baskets for Reynolds extended the lead back to 14, 48-34, with 17 minutes remaining. Reynold's four-point outburst started an 11-2 run for the Musketeers to push the lead out to 19, 57-38, with just over 15 minutes to play.
The Hilltoppers would get no closer than 12 the rest of the way, as Xavier steadily built its advantage, leading by as many as 32 in the second half before winning by a final margin of 31, 95-64.
The Musketeers shot 64.3 percent from the floor in the second half, including 5-of-8 from three. Davis' 11 second-half points led the way for the Musketeers and J.P. Macura added nine after the break.
Xavier finished with a 40-32 advantage on the boards, led by Bluiett's game-high 10.
The Musketeers return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 8 when Xavier hosts Wright State at Cintas Center for a 7:00 p.m. matchup on FOX Sports 1. More information will be available on GoXavier.com.
