Musketeers Pick Up 60-55 Road Win at Georgetown

​WASHINGTON, D.C. - Xavier women’s basketball held Georgetown scoreless over the final three minutes of play as the Musketeers defeated the Hoyas, 60-55, on Friday night at McDonough Arena.
Aliyah Zantt scored all eight of her points in the second half, including six of the team’s final seven points of the contest, to seal the victory for the Musketeers (15-10, 7-7 BIG EAST). The Hoyas dropped their ninth straight game, falling to 4-21 (2-11 BIG EAST).
Trailing 55-53, with 3:15 left in regulation, the Musketeers closed the game on a 7-0 run. Zantt hit two layups and knocked down two free throws, while the other point was on a Maddison Blackwell free throw.
Xavier led 3-2 in the opening minutes of the game before the Hoyas hit back-to-back baskets to take a 6-3 advantage at the 16:11 mark. Georgetown never trailed in the first half and led by as many as 11, 25-14, with 5:25 on the clock.
The Musketeers used an 11-0 run on 4-of-4 shooting, capped by a Jenna Crittendon jumper, with three minutes left before intermission to tie the game at 25-25. Dorothy Adomako made a layup on the ensuing possession to regain the lead for Georgetown, 27-25. The Hoyas led 28-26 at the break.
Crittendon paced XU with seven points and five rebounds at halftime, while Adomako was one of three Georgetown players with six points. The Musketeers held a 22-19 advantage on the glass in the first period.
The Musketeers used an 11-6 run to open the second half, taking a 37-34 advantage, their first lead of the game since the 18:24 mark in the first stanza. Xavier took its largest lead of the night, 46-37, with 11:15 on the clock before the Hoyas battled back to tie the game five more times over the next nine minutes.
Raeshaun Gaffney led three XU players in double figures with 12 points. Crittendon and Briana Glover both added 10, while Maleeka Kynard added nine and a game-high four assists and four steals.
Georgetown won the battle on the glass, 42-41, with Yazmine Belk pulling down a game-high 12 rebounds. Gaffney and Zantt paced XU with six rebounds each.
Brittany Horne led the Hoyas with a game-high 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting. Adomako chipped in 10 points and eight rebounds.
XU scored 32 points in the paint and had 16 points off of turnovers. The Musketeers added 12 second-chance points and 15 bench points.
The Musketeers return to action at Villanova on Sunday, Feb. 15. The game will be aired on the BIG EAST Digital Network at 1 p.m.
