NEW ORLEANS - Xavier baseball dropped game two of its weekend series at Tulane, 1-0, at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium despite a solid pitching performance from starter Adam Hall. The Musketeers move to 4-13 on the year.

Hall threw 6.1 scoreless innings in his fifth start of the year, striking out three batters and issuing two walks. The senior allowed six hits in his longest outing of the season.

The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the eighth inning when the Green Wave (14-5) scored what proved to be the only run they would need on the afternoon. Lex Kaplan hit a sacrifice fly to left field with one out in the inning, scoring Garrett Deschamp to put Tulane up 1-0.

In the top of the next inning, Dan Rankin retired the final three Xavier batters to earn his second win of the year (2-0). The sophomore threw two strikeouts in 2.1 innings of scoreless relief. Emerson Gibbs started the game for Tulane and posted four strikeouts and one walk in 6.2 innings of action.

Gibbs retired the first 10 Xavier hitters before a Joe Forney single in the fourth inning gave the Musketeers their first hit of the game. A two-out single by Brian Bruening later in the frame gave Xavier two base runners before Forney was caught stealing third base to end the inning.

Forney finished the game 2-for-4 at the plate. Rylan Bannon, Bruening and Andre Jernigan all added a hit for Xavier.

Deschamp went 2-for-4 at the plate with a run to lead the Green Wave. John Gandolfo also added two hits.

Greg Jacknewitz (1-3) took the loss for Xavier, surrendering one hit and the lone run. The sophomore also issued one walk in 2.1 innings of relief.

Tulane had two more hits (7-5) than Xavier and left three more runners on base (8-5). Neither team committed an error in the contest.

The series finale is slated for 1 p.m. ET on Sunday, March 15.
