NEW ORLEANS, La. - Xavier baseball took a 3-0 lead right off the bat in game three of a weekend series at Tulane, but the Green Wave battled back to take the final game, 10-3, on Sunday at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.

XU drops to 4-14 overall, while Tulane improved to 15-5 with the sweep. Starter Trent Astle (0-3) took the loss, allowing four runs over 4.2 innings.

Andre Jernigan had the lone hit on the day for the Musketeers, going 1-for-3 and knocking in a run during the first inning. XU also showed patience at the plate, working six walks in the game.

The Musketeers worked three straight free passes to start the game, cashing in on a wild pitch to score the first run of the afternoon. Brian Bruening then connected on a sacrifice fly to score Nate Soria. Andre Jernigan followed with a ground out to shortstop, plating Joe Forney and making it 3-0.

Xavier led 3-1 until a three-run rally by Tulane in the fifth. The Green Wave got one run back in the seventh, however, and put together a big inning in the eighth to put things out of reach.

The Musketeers return to action on Tuesday, March 17 at 3:00 p.m., facing Miami (Oh.) at Hayden Field. It will be the first home game of the season.
