Men's Tennis Advances to Semifinals

INDIANAPOLIS - Xavier men's tennis opened up BIG EAST Championship play with a bang, securing victory over Butler, 4-1, to advance to the men's semifinals.
Matt Bishop and Zach Mueck obtained the first and only win for the Musketeers in doubles competition defeating Pulok Bhattacharya and Brandon Woods, 8-3.
In singles, men's tennis grabbed the first three matches at the No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 spots. Zach Mueck earned the first victory winning in two sets, 6-0, 6-4. Jeremy Schneider also won in two sets, 6-2, 6-2. Matt Bishop followed by winning in a competitive match 7-5, 6-3. Freshman Gabriel Chaves Araujo ended dual match play by serving his opponent in three back and forth sets, 6-4, 4-6, 6-0.
With the win, the Musketeers advance to take on St. Johns, April 25th, with match play set to begin at 9 a.m. The men of St. Johns' defeated Villanova, 4-0 in the quarterfinals.
