
Women's Tennis Propels Past NKU, 5-2

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. - The Xavier women's tennis team defeated Northern Kentucky in a midweek match at Five Seasons Sports Club Wednesday afternoon, 5-2.
In a hotly contested doubles competition, Xavier came out victorious. Lauren Ghidotti and Cristina Di Lorenzo got things started by defeating Rheanna Morehart and Nicole Soutar, 6-4. Northern Kentucky quickly responded with Sydney Power and Yasmine Xantos beating Lizzie Oosterbaan and Megan Morris, 6-3. Coming down to the wire at No. 1 doubles, Sydney Liggins and Amina Ismail defeated Danielle Donahue and Hailey Shanahan, 7-5, to secure Xavier the doubles point.
Liggins took her momentum into singles play by defeating Shanahan, 6-2, 6-1, to propel Xavier to a 2-0 advantage.
Ghidotti did the same as she beat Donahue, 6-3, 6-4.
Having a 3-0 advantage and needing one more point to secure the match, Ismail defeated Powers, 6-2, 6-4, to give Xavier the win.
Rounding out the match, Di Lorenzo beat Morehart, 6-2, 6-4. Oosterbaan dropped her match to Soutar and Abigail Roebker was defeated by Sierra Nellessen, 6-1, 6-2.
"Today we played a good match and dealt with adversity well," said Liggins. "It was a great win going into this weekend."
The win improves Xavier's record to 13-4 on the season with a 7-3 road record.
The Musketeers are back in action against BIG EAST opponent St. John's and Fordham April 10th and 11th.
