CINCINNATI --Â Xavier women's basketball will travel to Canada on Aug. 7-14 to play four exhibition games. The Musketeers will spend eight days sightseeing and playing basketball in both Montreal and Toronto.Â
DestinationsÂ
• Xavier will spend its first five days in Canada visiting the city of Montreal.Â
• The Musketeers depart Montreal on Wednesday, Aug. 12 and travel southwest to Toronto for the remainder of the trip.Â
GamesÂ
•Xavier is slated to play three games against local competition in Montreal. The Musketeers will face the Cegep All-Stars, Carleton University and McGill University from Aug. 8-11.Â
• In Toronto, the Musketeers will play one game against the A-Game All-Stars on Thursday, Aug. 13.Â
What We'll Be DoingÂ
• While in Montreal, the team will be visiting a variety of local landmarks. Xavier is slated to visit Mount Royal, Saint Joseph Oratory and Notre-Dame Basilica.Â
• Xavier is also scheduled to tour Olympic Stadium in Montreal. The stadium was host to the 1976 Summer Olympics and was home to the Montreal Expos.Â
• While in Toronto, the Musketeers will visit a variety of local attractions including the Rogers Centre (home of the Toronto Blue Jays) and Air Canada Centre (home of the Toronto Raptors and Toronto Maple Leafs).Â
• The team will also travel to Niagara Falls on Wednesday, Aug. 12.Â
Early PracticesÂ
• One benefit of a foreign tour is the ability for extra summer practices.Â
• Under NCAA rules, the team is allowed 10 practices prior to a foreign trip.Â
• Xavier will hold its first practice on Wednesday, July 22. The practice will allow the Musketeers, who return four starters and 13 letterwinners, to get a jump start on preseason preparations.Â
Head Coach Brian Neal's Thoughts on the TripÂ
"This trip provides us with a terrific chance to improve as a basketball team. For starters, it gives us invaluable practice time and team-bonding experiences for our players, which hopefully puts us ahead of the curve once the season starts. It's also a wonderful opportunity for our players to visit two beautiful cities, and learn a little in the process as an educational experience as well."
