Former Basketball Standout Maleeka Kynard Signs Professional Contract

The former Musketeer signed with DCU Mercy of the Irish Premier League
CINCINNATI – Former Xavier women's basketball standout Maleeka Kynard has signed a professional contract to play for DCU Mercy of the Irish Premier League – the top league for women in Ireland.
DCU Mercy finished the 2014-15 season in second place of the Premier League standings with a 10-4 record. The squad lost in the semifinal round of Ireland's playoffs.
"I'm looking forward to elevating my game by playing at the professional level," said Kynard. "I'm excited to be able to have an opportunity to see the world and play for a great organization."
Kynard played in 26 games with 18 starts in her lone season with the Musketeers. The Toledo, Ohio native averaged 9.1 points per game, while leading the team in steals (45) and ranking second in assists (75). She joined the Xavier program in the fall of 2014 after graduating from Ohio State.
Kynard earned her master's degree in criminal justice from Xavier in the spring of 2015.
