No. 24 Kentucky Upends Musketeers in Four Sets

Makayla Agin posts a season-high 13 kills in the loss
CINCINNATI - Makayla Agin posted a season-high 13 kills on Friday night as the Xavier volleyball team dropped a four-set match (25-22, 17-25, 17-25, 20-25) to No. 24 Kentucky at Cintas Center.

Xavier falls to 4-6 on the year, while the Wildcats improve to 6-5. Friday night's match was Xavier's second straight match against a nationally ranked opponent.

Agin posted a season-high in kills for the second time in as many matches, while posting a team-high .370 hitting percentage. Abbey Bessler was one dig shy of posting a double-double as the junior finished with 11 kills and nine digs.

Kristen Massa added 10 kills and Sofia Peterson chipped in eight. Lauren Frilling and Peterson combined for seven block assists as XU had seven team blocks on the night.

Meredith Klare paced the back line with 16 digs, while McKena Estes had a team-high 26 assists. Mackenzi Humm also added 16 assists.

 Xavier led by as many as eight points three times in the opening set, including a 20-12 advantage before the Wildcats scored six straight to get within two. The Musketeers closed the set on a 5-2 run capped by a Massa kill to take the set, 25-22.

Kentucky captured the next two sets, 25-17, behind a solid hitting percentage. The Wildcats hit .357 in set two and .355 in the third frame. Kentucky finished the night with a .283 hitting percentage, while the Musketeers posted a .184 attacking percentage.
The fourth set had 10 ties and two lead changes with the final tie at 20. The Wildcats scored the final five points of the frame to win the set, 25-20.

Darian Mack was one of three Wildcats with double-figure kills, posting a match-high 15 to go along with 12 digs. Sharay Barnes and Kaz Brown both added 13 kills, while Morgan Bergren recorded a match-high 43 assists.
