Men's Soccer Earns NSCAA Team Academic Award for Sixth Straight Year

KANSAS CITY – Xavier men's soccer was awarded the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the sixth consecutive year on Wednesday. The Musketeers combined for an impressive team GPA of 3.25 for the 2014-15 academic year.
"I think this is a feather in the cap of our players, their parents and our campus again," said head coach Andy Fleming. "I believe a good men's soccer program should reflect its university and our academic success over the past six years does just that."
XU had the 11th best GPA of teams that made the 2014 NCAA Tournament field. Amongst Division I private institutions, the Musketeers ranked 34th in team GPA and were one of just seven schools to make the NCAA field with a GPA of 3.25 or higher.
Last season, 17 Musketeers were also honored with a spot on the BIG EAST All-Academic Team.
The academic excellence was matched on the pitch, where the Musketeers set a program record for wins (15) and advanced to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 for the first time in program history.
"Since 2012, we've had multiple top-10 national rankings, a top-10 MLS draft pick, led the nation in fewest yellow cards and have had a top-10 GPA," said Fleming. "We are a well-rounded program, and I truly believe the people we have and how we study, act and prepare is what allows the soccer to be what it is."
A total of 305 men's teams were recognized across all divisions, and Xavier was one of just 211 schools to have both its women's and men's squads honored.
