Glover’s Career Day Lifts Musketeers Over Friars

Senior forward scored a game-high 27 points on 10-for-14 shooting
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Senior Briana Glover scored a career-high 27 points on Sunday afternoon, leading the Musketeers to a 62-54 road win at Providence.
Xavier improved to 13-3 on the year and 4-1 in BIG EAST play. The Friars moved to 4-12 (0-6 BIG EAST).
Trailing 37-35 at the end of three quarters, the Musketeers outscored the Friars, 27-17, in the fourth quarter to pull away for the 62-54 victory. Xavier was 9-for-11 from the floor and 8-for-9 from the charity stripe in the fourth quarter. The Musketeers hit 54 percent of their shot attempts in the second half after posting a .345 field-goal percentage in the first half.
Glover was 10-for-14 from the floor as she recorded her second 20-point game of the season and fifth of her career. She was also 7-for-8 from the foul line.
Xavier finished the game 12-for-14 from the foul line, including a 4-for-4 mark from Raeshan Gaffney. The junior guard finished with 10 points, all coming in the second half.
The Musketeers held a 33-26 advantage on the glass, led by Glover's game-high eight rebounds. Gaffney added four rebounds in the win.
Aliyah Zantt chipped in nine points and recorded a game-high five steals, moving into fifth place in the career steals chart at Xavier. Both squads finished with 10 steals.
Xavier opened the game by going 7-for-13 from the floor with two 3-pointers to take an early 16-6 advantage. A Zantt layup as time expired made the score, 18-11, at the end of the first quarter.
The Musketeers went 2-for-10 from the floor in the second quarter as the Friars were able to get within one, 21-20, with 2:46 left before halftime. A Glover layup with a minute left before intermission made the halftime score, 23-20.
Glover led the Musketeers with seven points and five rebounds at break. Xavier held a 22-15 advantage on the glass.
Jovana Nogic led the Friars with 14 points on 6-for-11 shooting, while also adding a team-high five rebounds.
Xavier returns to action against Marquette on Friday, Jan. 15. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. from Cintas Center.
