Musketeers Pick Up Road Win, Defeat DePaul in Four Sets

Finn, Foti post career outings vs the Blue Demons
CHICAGO – Career-best outings from Morgan Finn and Samantha Foti led the Xavier volleyball team to a four-set win (25-17, 25-16, 16-25, 25-21) at DePaul on Wednesday night.
Finn posted 10 kills and a .571 hitting percentage, while Foti had a match-high five service aces. The Musketeers moved to 10-10 (4-3 BIG EAST), while the Blue Demons dropped to 11-9 (5-3 BIG EAST).
Xavier now returns home for a five-match homestand beginning on Friday, Oct. 14 against Georgetown.
• Senior Sofia Peterson posted a match-high 16 kills to go along with a .444 hitting percentage. The right side also added three blocks and one dig.
• Senior Abbey Bessler chipped in 11 kills and 10 digs for her 10th double-double of the year.
• Meredith Klare had a match-high 15 digs, her 12th match of the season with 15 or more digs.
• Xavier matched its season-high in service aces with seven. The Musketeers also had one more total team block (8-7) than DePaul with Alexis Newsome pacing Xavier with four blocks.
• Mackenzi Humm dished out a team-high 25 assists, while McKena Estes chipped in 18.
• Xavier moved to 13-5 all-time against the Blue Demons and have now won eight of the last nine meetings between the two schools. Xavier is 6-1 against DePaul since joining the BIG EAST in 2013.
• The opening set had seven ties and three lead changes. Tied at 17, the Musketeers scored the final eight points of the frame to win, 25-17.
• Xavier hit .357 with Sofia Peterson recording five kills and a .667 attack percentage. Samantha Foti had four of her five aces in the opening frame.
• Xavier never trailed in the set and led by as many as six, 21-15, down the stretch. The Musketeers scored four of the final five points to pull ahead, 2-0, in the match.
• DePaul jumped out to an early 5-1 lead in the set. The Blue Demons never trailed in the frame before pulling away for their first win of the night, 25-16.
• The final set had six ties and three lead changes with neither team leading by more than four points throughout the set. Sofia Peterson scored Xavier's final two points of the set as she finished the frame with six kills.
