Volleyball Drops Three Set Match at Marquette

Sofia Peterson recorded a match-high 13 kills on Wednesday afternoon
MILWAUKEE - Xavier volleyball opened a three-game BIG EAST road swing with a three-set loss (20-25, 20-25, 24-26) at Marquette on Wednesday afternoon.

The Musketeers (8-10, 2-3) had its two game win streak over the Golden Eagles (13-4, 3-2) snapped in the loss. Xavier moved to 7-10 in the all-time series.

Xavier returns to action at Butler on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 4 p.m. The Bulldogs (13-8, 2-3) have dropped two straight, most recently falling at DePaul on Wednesday in five sets.

• Sofia Peterson posted a match-high 13 kills to go along with a team-high .550 hitting percentage. She has posted 10 or more kills in a match nine times this season.

• Abbey Bessler added eight kills and 10 digs. The senior outside hitter has posted 10 or more digs in a match 10 times this season.

• Meredith Klare recorded a match-high 12 digs. Samantha Foti and McKena Estes both chipped in five.

• Mackenzi Humm dished out a team-high 22 assists, while McKena Estes had 11.

• Xavier scored the first three points of the match before the Golden Eagles went on a 7-3 run to take a 7-6 advantage. Marquette never trailed for the remainder of the set, holding on for the 25-20 victory.

• The Musketeers again scored the first three points of the set and led 15-13 midway through the frame. Marquette would tie the set five times down the stretch before scoring the final five points to win, 25-20.

• Sofia Peterson had five of her kills in the set. She posted a .571 hitting percentage in the frame.

• The final set had five ties and two lead changes. Marquette led 21-17 before the Musketeers scored five unanswered points to regain the lead, 22-21. Xavier was one point away, 24-23, from forcing a fourth set before the Golden Eagles closed the set on a 3-0 run to win the match.

• The Musketeers hit .314 in the set with Sofia Peterson posting a .857 attack percentage. The senior right side also had six kills in the set.
