Musketeers Top Hoyas in Three Sets, Earn Spot in BIG EAST Tournament

Volleyball has now won nine of its last 11 matches
WASHINGTON – With two regular-season matches remaining on the schedule, Xavier volleyball locked up a spot in the four-team BIG EAST Tournament with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, 25-18) win over Georgetown on Sunday afternoon.
The Musketeers (17-12, 11-5 BIG EAST) have now won nine of their last 11 matches. Xavier also moved to 9-0 in the all-time series against the Hoyas (6-23, 2-14 BIG EAST).
• Abbey Bessler posted a match-high 10 kills to go along with nine digs. The senior also added two of the Musketeers six service aces.
• Brooke Betts had nine kills and a .467 hitting percentage. The senior middle blocker also led the Musketeers with five blocks as Xavier held a 6-2 advantage in total team blocks. She added two service aces.
• Morgan Finn had eight kills in 11 attempts as the sophomore posted a team-high .636 attack percentage.
• Setters McKena Estes and Mackenzi Humm combined to post 36 assists and nine digs. Meredith Klare had a match-high 13 digs.
• Xavier solidified a winning record for the 19th consecutive season following the win. The Musketeers will also participate in the BIG EAST Tournament for a fourth straight year after joining the conference in 2013.
• Xavier never trailed in the opening set and pulled away for a 25-13 win behind a .636 hitting percentage. Morgan Finn had four kills in four attempts to lead the Musketeers.
• The second frame had six ties and four lead changes. Tied at 19, the Musketeers ended the set on a 6-2 run to seal the victory.
• Brooke Betts led Xavier with four kills and three blocks.
• Tied at nine, the Musketeers used an 11-4 run to go ahead, 20-13. Xavier got back-to-back kills from Kristen Massa to end the set and seal the 3-0 victory.

• Xavier closes the regular season with back-to-back home matches against DePaul (Nov. 18) and Marquette (Nov. 19).
