Musketeers Serve NKU, 4-2
02.27.16 | Men's Tennis
CINCINNATI – Men's tennis brought the heat as they fought back relentlessly in competition, February 26th, to capture a 4-2 win over neighboring foe, NKU.
After earning the doubles point, obtaining wins at the no. 1 and 2 spots, men's tennis headed into doubles competition with fire in their bellies.
In singles, Xavier found itself falling behind early in play, despite winning its first match. Following a big win by sophomore Arthur Stefani, Xavier followed up with two loses at the no. 1 and 3 spots. Junior Jeremy Schneider weathered the storm, however, defeating Lukas Clemens in a tough first set, 7-5(5), and then winning the overall match in the third set, 6-4. Freshman Jack Dykema came up big after losing his first set but eventually served up Blaine Carr in three sets, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1.
"This was a gritty win for our guys tonight." Head Coach, Doug Matthews, commented. "We were down much of the match, but stayed positive and just kept competing. It was great to see our freshman come up big and play well in a pressure situation."
The men will be back in action March 8th as they travel to Florida to take on Florida Atlantic over spring break. Check back to GoXavier.com for updates on your Xavier tennis team!
