Musketeers Drop Midweek Game at No. 4 Louisville

Xavier takes fourth straight loss against top-four opponent in road setback
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Xavier baseball fell 11-1 in a road game at No. 4 Louisville on Tuesday at Jim Patterson Stadium.
Louisville moved to 14-2 on the year, while Xavier dropped to 3-12. It was XU's fourth straight game against a team ranked in the top-four nationally.
• Xavier had three of its four hits in the first inning, getting an RBI double from Joe Gellenbeck to take a 1-0 lead.
• Joe Gellenbeck (1-for-3, RBI), Will LaRue (1-for-3, R), Blaine Griffiths (1-for-3, BB) and Chris Givin (1-for-3) each had hits for Xavier.
• Joe Gellenbeck moved into the team lead with his eighth RBI of the season. He now has a hit in eight of his last 10 games.
• Garrett Howicz worked a walk in the ninth inning, reaching base for the first time in his career.
• Chris Givin collected a hit in his third straight start and is now 4-for-11 (.364) with a double in his past three games.
• Starter Taylor Williams struck out two and lasted 3.1 innings in his first career start. The freshman righty allowed just three hits, but surrendered five runs and walked three.
• Damien Richard followed with 2.1 innings of one-run relief. The righty struck out three, scattering four hits.
• Sam Czabala and Jason Hall were tagged for five runs over 1.2 innings during a Louisville rally in the seventh and eighth.
• Brandon Johnson was effective, pitching the eighth and allowing just one hit in a scoreless inning.
