Xavier scores three runs in the eighth inning to seal the 8-5 victory

CINCINNATI – Xavier baseball used a three-run eighth inning to seal a 8-5 victory in game two of its weekend series with Central Michigan. The Musketeers have now won three straight as they improved to 6-12 on the year. The Chippewas moved to 4-14 with the loss.

XU AT THE PLATE

• Xavier finished with 12 hits, the team's eighth game of the year with 10 or more hits.
• The Musketeers had five stolen bases in the win, paced by Will LaRue who had three. The sophomore outfielder is now 16-for-17 in stolen bases this season. Daniel Rizzie also had two stolen bases.
• Xavier now has had nine stolen bases in its last two outings.
• Six Musketeers had multi-hit games, paced by Rylan Bannon (2-for-4, 2 RBI, R) and Andre Jernigan (2-for-4, 2 RBI, R). Will LaRue (2-for-5, 2 R), Daniel Rizzie (2-for-4, R, RBI), Joe Gellenbeck (2-for-3, RBI) and Nate Soria (2-for-5, R, RBI) all added two hits each.
• Xavier also had two home runs in the win. The Musketeers have hit eight home runs in their last three games.

XU ON THE MOUND

• Starter Greg Jacknewitz pitched five solid innings, surrendering eight hits and four runs with one strikeout.
• Brad Kirschner (2-1) came into the game in the sixth inning and got relief pitcher Taylor Williams out of a jam. Kirschner went 2.2 innings, allowing one run and three hits while recording three strikeouts.
• Garrett Schilling posted his team-leading third save on the night. The sophomore gave up a lead-off single in the ninth before settling down late in the inning to get the Chippewas to fly out to end the game with the bases loaded.

HOW THE MUSKETEERS SCORED

THIRD INNING: Daniel Rizzie hit a two-out, RBI single down the left-field line - scoring Will LaRue who stole second and third base in the inning.
FOURTH INNING: Rylan Bannon hit a two-run homer to left center, his third home run of the season.
FIFTH INNING: A one-out Andre Jernigan solo home run scored the first run of the inning before Nate Soria crossed home plate later in the frame on a David Morton sacrifice fly.
EIGHTH INNING: Will LaRue scored the first of three runs in the inning on a Joe Gellenbeck sacrifice fly. Chris Givin scored on the next play following a bunt single by Andre Jernigan. Daniel Rizzie scored the final run by stealing home.
