Baseball Drops Game Two of Friday Doubleheader at UC

Musketeers fall 9-2 in second game, will cap series tomorrow at 1 p.m.
CINCINNATI – Xavier baseball fell 9-2 to UC in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday at Marge Schott Stadium.
The loss dropped the Musketeers to 7-15 overall, while Cincinnati improved to 11-11 with its 10th straight win – the longest winning streak for the Bearcats since 1990.
UC's pitching was solid again in the night cap, as starter J.T. Perez struck out four in six innings of two-run ball. Jarod Yoakam and Colton Cleary pitched the final three innings, holding XU scoreless to cap the win.

• Xavier got collected nine hits as a team and received multi-hit efforts from Will LaRue (2-for-4, R), Daniel Rizzie (2-for-4, HR, 2 RBI) and Rylan Bannon (2-for-4).
• Nate Soria (1-for-4), Ethan Schmidt (1-for-4) and Matt Fallon (1-for-3) also added hits for the Musketeers.
• Rizzie gave XU both its runs, delivering an RBI ground out in the third and a solo home run – his third of the season – in the sixth.
• Xavier now has 13 homers in its last seven games.
• Rizzie has turned it on at the plate in the last six games, going 9-for-23 (.391) with three homers, seven runs scored and six RBI. Â
• LaRue turned in his third straight game with two hits and – with his 4-for-7 overall line today – is 17-for-35 (.486) with 12 stolen bases in his last nine games.

• Starter Greg Jacknewitz lasted five innings, allowing seven earned runs and striking out three.
• Trey Schramm worked two innings in relief, surrendering two earned runs on three hits with one strikeout.
• Freshman Matt Kent made his career debut, setting down the Bearcats in order in the eighth with one strikeout.

SIXTH INNING: Dan Rizzie led off the frame with his third homer of the season, a towering shot to left center.
