Baseball Falls in Game Two at Georgetown, 9-1

BETHESDA, Md. – Xavier baseball couldn't get much going on Saturday, falling 9-1 at Georgetown in game two of its weekend series.
Xavier drops to 13-23 (1-1 BIG EAST) overall with the loss, while the Hoyas improved to 16-20 (2-3 BIG EAST). The Hoyas got a gem from righty Simon Mathews, who struck out nine in a complete game effort.
· Nate Soria led the Musketeers with a 2-for-3 day, lacing a pair of singles. Soria is now 9-for-14 (.643) over his last four games.
· Rylan Bannon (1-for-3), Dan Rizzie (1-for-3), Ethan Schmidt (1-for-3) and Matt Fallon (1-for-2, R) also had hits for the Musketeers.
· Rylan Bannon has now reached base in 14 of his last 15 games.
· Brad Kirschner got the ball and lasted 4.2 innings, allowing one earned run on eight hits.
· Taylor Williams surrendered three runs in relief, snapping a scoreless streak of nine innings for the freshman righty.
· Greg Jacknewitz was touched up for five earned runs in 1.2 innings before giving way to Trent Astle, who escaped the eighth after allowing two inherited runs to score.
SIXTH INNING: Matt Fallon led off with a single to center, advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt by Rylan Bannon. A passed ball allowed Fallon to move to third before coming in to score on a ground out.
· Xavier caps its weekend series at Georgetown tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Shirley Povich Field. Sunday's starter remains TBA.
