NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State rallied for a pair of runs, taking advantage of an XU error in the eighth inning to steal a win, 6-5, over Xavier baseball on Saturday at Duffy Bass Field.

Xavier drops to 9-18 overall, while Illinois State snapped a 10-game losing streak to improve to 8-18.

XU AT THE PLATE

• Dan Rizzie and Chris Givin each collected a pair of hits, while Joe Gellenbeck, Blaine Griffiths and Rylan Bannon had one apiece.
• Dan Rizzie stayed hot, going 2-for-3 with a run and a pair of walks. He is hitting .463 (19-for-41) with 11 runs and nine RBI in his last 11 games. The senior catcher also leads XU with 12 multi-hit games.
• Chris Givin bumped his average to .306 on the season with a 2-for-5 day, knocking in a run and scoring another. He has five multi-hit games in his 13 starts.
• Xavier worked a season-high eight walks, including two by Dan Rizzie, Blaine Griffiths and David Morton.
• Blaine Griffiths tied a season-high with two RBI. He now has RBI's in back-to-back games.

XU ON THE MOUND

• Brad Kirschner rolled through four shutout innings, striking out six, before Illinois State rallied for three in the fifth.
• Trey Schramm entered in relief, getting two big outs and stranding the bases loaded to preserve a one-run lead. He finished with one earned run allowed in two innings, striking out one.
• Garrett Schilling pitched the final 1.2 innings, surrendering a pair of unearned runs in the eighth after a two out error was charged to Rylan Bannon. Schilling struck out two and hasn't allowed an earned run in his last 11.2 innings.

HOW THE MUSKETEERS SCORED

FOURTH INNING: Blaine Griffiths worked a one out walk, stealing second, before David Morton followed with a walk as well. Both runners advanced on a passed ball and Rylan Bannon then singled to right to score Griffiths. Morton came across on an error on the next play.
FIFTH INNING: Andre Jernigan was hit by a pitch with two outs, moving to third on a single by Chris Givin. Blaine Griffiths batted next and doubled down the left field, scoring both and making it a 4-0 game.
SEVENTH INNING: Dan Rizzie worked a leadoff walk, stealing second with two outs before Chris Givin singled up the middle to make it a 5-3 game.
