Men's Golfer Daniel Wetterich Named BIG EAST Freshman of the Year

Wetterich ranked third in the league in stroke average in his first year of college golf
NEW YORK – Xavier men's golfer Daniel Wetterich was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Year on Friday, marking the second straight year – and the seventh time since 2000 – a Xavier golfer has taken home the honor.
Wetterich, a Cincinnati-native and La Salle graduate, finished in the top-10 of three of his last five tournaments this spring – including a tie for 14th at the BIG EAST Championships. He averaged 73.29 strokes per round and had a season-low of 67 in his rookie campaign.
Wetterich's best finish of the season, a runner-up performance, came at the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate back in September.
The BIG EAST Freshman of the Year award was decided by a league-wide head coaches vote and coaches were not permitted to vote for their own players in the balloting.
XU sophomore Jose Montaño took home the award last season, continuing a string of talented newcomers for the program. It's the seventh conference rookie of the year award for the program since 2000.
