Musketeers fall in three sets on Friday night
CINCINNATI – Xavier volleyball opened its home schedule with a three set (18-25, 23-25, 15-25) loss to Creighton on Friday night at Cintas Center.
The Musketeers moved to 7-9 (1-2 BIG EAST) on the year, while the Bluejays improved to 9-6 (3-0 BIG EAST). Xavier returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 4 p.m. against Providence.
• Abbey Bessler led the Musketeers with eight kills. The senior outside hitter was held without 10 or more kills for only the third time this season.
• Sofia Peterson and Kristen Massa both added seven kills. Brooke Betts and Lauren Frilling both chipped in four.
• Mackenzi Humm dished out a team-high 14 assists, while McKena Estes added 12. Meredith Klare also had a team-high 10 digs.
• Both teams had three total team blocks. Creighton posted a .337 hitting percentage, while Xavier was limited to a .186 attack percentage.
• The opening set had three ties and two lead changes. Creighton led by as many as nine (19-10) before pulling out the 25-18 victory.
• Lauren Frilling hit .667 with four kills. Sofia Peterson added three kills and Meredith Klare had seven digs.
• Set two had six ties and three lead changes. The Musketeers led 20-18 before the Bluejays closed the frame on a 7-3 run.
• Creighton opened the final set on a 12-6 run before pulling ahead by as many as nine (20-11). The Bluejays held on for the 25-15 victory as they remained undefeated in BIG EAST play.
