Golden Eagles top Xavier, 85-61, on Friday night at the Al McGuire Center

MILWAUKEE - Xavier women's basketball opened its two-game road swing on Friday night with an 85-61 loss at Marquette. The Musketeers dropped to 10-7 (2-4) on the year, while the Golden Eagles improved to 14-4 (5-2).

NOTABLES

• Raeshaun Gaffney led three Xavier players in double figures with 12 points. The senior guard added six rebounds. She is now 10 points shy of 1,000-career points during her playing career.

• Imani Partlow posted 11 points and four rebounds in 19 minutes of action off the bench. The sophomore forward has scored in double figures six times during her career.

• Marquia Turner had 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds. The junior guard was also one of three Xavier players with four assists in the game.

• Both squads hit seven 3-pointers in the game. Xavier also scored a season-high 20 fastbreak points.

• Xavier now trails the all-time series, 9-7, with a 2-6 record when playing in Milwaukee.

FIRST QUARTER

• Marquette scored seven unanswered points to open the game before the Musketeers went on an 11-3 run to take a 11-10 advantage, forcing a Marquette timeout. A Kindell Fincher three pointer made the score 14-10, but the Golden Eagles rattled off 12 straight points to take a 22-14 lead at the 1:21 mark. Marquette led 27-16 at the end of the quarter.

• Kindell Fincher led the Musketeers with six points after one quarter of play.

SECOND QUARTER

• Xavier went 5-for-10 from the floor to open the quarter to get within seven, 36-29, at the media timeout. The Musketeers climbed within three points, 36-33, at the 1:07 mark on an Imani Partlow jumper. A Marquia Turner three pointer as time expired fell short as the Golden Eagles took the three-point advantage into the locker room.

• Marquia Turner led Xavier with eight points on 3-for-6 shooting at the break, while Kindell Fincher and Imani Partlow both added six. Both teams 24 rebounds in the first half with Turner and Leah Schaefer pacing Xavier with five rebounds each.

THIRD QUARTER

• Marquette scored eight unanswered to start the half and took its first 20-point lead, 63-43, at the 2:55 mark. The Golden Eagles hit 76.5 percent (13-for-17) of their shot attempts and outscored Xavier, 29-12, in the frame to take 65-45 lead at the end of the quarter.

FOURTH QUARTER

• Marquette kept up the hot shooting, outscoring Xavier, 20-16, in the frame. The Golden Eagles hit 61.8 percent of their shot attempts in the second half.
