Men's Tennis Falls 5-2 in Spring Opener at Michigan State

Xavier picks up wins in the No. 4 and No. 5 singles
EAST LANSING, Mich. - Xavier men's tennis opened the 2017 spring season on the road at tough Big 10 opponent, falling 5-2 at Michigan State on Saturday at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility.
Xavier fell in two of the three doubles matches to give Michigan State the point. Matt Bishop and Gabriel Araujo topped Doug Francken and Billy Shisler in the No. 2 doubles spot, 6-5.
In singles action, MSU took the 3-0 lead after Jeremy Schneider and Matt Bishop fell in two sets at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, respectively.
In the No. 6 spot, Matthew Graft fell in a three-set battle, 5-7, 6-3, 6-1 to put MSU ahead 4-0 and secure the win. Jack Dykema took Jasper Koenen to three sets in the No. 3 spot, falling 4-6, 6-3, 3-6.
The Musketeers scored from the No. 4 and No. 5 spots, with Trent Smith winning the four-spot in three sets, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2. Araujo picked up another win in the No. 5 spot, topping MSU's Ivan Rakic 6-4, 5-7, 10-4.
