Maddison Blackwell posted her seventh career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Maddison Blackwell was one of five Xavier players in double figures on Friday night as the Musketeers dropped a 71-62 game at Seton Hall.

The Musketeers (10-11, 2-8 BIG EAST) have now dropped six straight games. The Pirates moved to 10-11, 3-7 BIG EAST) with the win. Xavier is now 1-7 all-time versus Seton Hall.

NOTABLES

• Maddison Blackwell led Xavier with 14 points and 10 rebounds as the senior forward posted her seventh career double-double and her third of the season. She was 6-for-11 from the floor.

• Xavier had five players in double figures: Maddison Blackwell (14), Kindell Fincher (14), Imani Partlow (10), Marquia Turner (10) and Raeshaun Gaffney (10). It marked the first time Xavier has had five players in double figures since Nov. 17, 2014 vs Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

• Marquia Turner scored all of her points in the second half on 4-for-8 shooting. She added a team-high four assists to go along with two rebounds.

• Xavier held a 40-33 advantage on the glass, its first time outrebounding an opponent since Dec. 30 vs Creighton. Raeshaun Gaffney added seven rebounds and Imani Partlow chipped in six.

• The Musketeers posted a 16-9 advantage in second-chance points, coming off of 14 offensive rebounds.

FIRST QUARTER

• The opening quarter had two ties and one lead change. Seton Hall led by as many as seven, 13-6, at the 3:27 mark before the Musketeers got with two by using an 8-3 run. LeTecia Smith hit a layup as time expired to give the Pirates an 18-14 lead after one quarter of action.

• Xavier hit 50 percent (5-for-10) of its shot attempts. Maddison Blackwell led the Musketeers with four points and three rebounds.

SECOND QUARTER

• Seton Hall hit four of its first five shot attempts to take a 27-18 advantage and force a Xavier timeout. The Musketeers battled back to get within two on a Maddison Blackwell layup with 2:05 on the clock, making the score 31-29. Seton Hall maintained its lead for the remainder of the half, taking a 36-31 advantage into the locker room.

• Three Xavier players had eight points at the break: Maddison Blackwell, Imani Partlow and Kindell Fincher.

• Xavier and Seton Hall both had 17 rebounds in the first half. Maddison Blackwell led the Musketeers on the glass with five rebounds.

THIRD QUARTER

• Xavier opened the second half on an 8-2 run capped by an Imani Partlow free throw to take its first lead since the opening minute of the game, 39-38. The two teams were tied two more times in the quarter before the Pirates took a 54-50 lead at the end of the quarter.

• Xavier outscored Seton Hall, 19-18, in the frame. Marquia Turner scored five points after being held scoreless in the first half.

FOURTH QUARTER

• Xavier got within three on three occasions in the final quarter before the Pirates pulled away down the stretch. Seton Hall outscored Xavier, 11-5, over the final five minutes of action.

UP NEXT

• Xavier returns to action against St. John's on Sunday, Jan. 29. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m. from Madison Square Garden. The Xavier men will take on the Red Storm at 6 p.m. in the second game of the doubleheader.
