Xavier Ends Homestand with Overtime Loss to Butler

Musketeers fall 65-62 at Cintas Center on Sunday afternoon
CINCINNATI - The Butler Bulldogs handed Xavier women's basketball a 65-62 overtime loss on Sunday afternoon at Cintas Center. The Musketeers moved to 10-6 (2-3 BIG EAST), while the Bulldogs improved to 5-11 (BIG EAST).
Xavier led most of the game, until the fourth quarter when Butler outscored the Musketeers, 18-8, to force an overtime period. Butler outscored Xavier, 5-2, in overtime to secure the win.

NOTABLES |
• The 60.9 percent (14-for-23) field-goal percentage during the first half was a season high for the Musketeers.
• Xavier posted a season-high nine blocks with Maddison Blackwell finishing with a career-high five blocks.
• Raeshaun Gaffney led the Musketeers with 16 points, while Kindell Fincher finished with 15 points. Marquia Turner rounded out the double-figure scorers with 11 points. Maddison Blackwell chipped in nine points on 3-for-5 shooting.
• Both teams shot under 40 percent from the floor as Xavier went 20-for-53 and Butler went 24-for-62.
• Butler held a 40-37 advantage on the glass. Maddison Blackwell recorded a team-high eight rebounds, while Marquia Turner chipped in seven. Turner added a team-high three steals as Xavier held a 6-5 advantage in steals.
• Butler's Tori Schickel finished with a game-high 20 points and 20 rebounds. She added four assists and four blocks.

FIRST QUARTER |
• Butler jumped out to an early 5-0 lead with a free throw and two quick baskets after Xavier's first two possessions resulted in turnovers.
• Back-to-back three pointers by Kindell Fincher allowed the Musketeers to tie it up at six at the four-minute mark.
• A 7-4 Xavier run ended the quarter, giving the Musketeers a 19-12 advantage.

SECOND QUARTER |
• Xavier came out of the intermission with a 6-0 run on three pointers by Raeshaun Gaffney and Marquia Turner.
• Butler cut its 13- point deficit to five, 28-23, with 5:01 on the clock with an 11-3 run.
• An 11-3 Xavier run ended the half, making the score, 39-26.
• At halftime, Xavier's leading scorer was Kindell Fincher with 13 points. Raeshaun Gaffney followed with 11 points.

THIRD QUARTER |
• Xavier struggled shooting at the beginning of the second half as a Butler 8-2 run forced a Xavier timeout at the six-minute mark.
• Raeshaun Gaffney got the Musketeers back on the scoreboard with a jumper from the top of the key to make the score, 43-36.
• Xavier held a 52-42 lead going into the fourth quarter.

FOURTH QUARTER |
• The Bulldogs came out strong and opened the quarter with a 6-2 run, cutting the Musketeers' lead to 54-48, prompting a Xavier timeout.
• Butler would tie the game at 60 on a Michelle Weaver layup with 17 second left in regulation.
• A missed jumper by Maddison Blackwell as time expired resulted in the game going into overtime.
• Butler outscored Xavier 18-8 in the fourth quarter.

OVERTIME |
• Neither team made a basket in overtime as Xavier was 0-for-8 and Butler was 0-for-2. The Bulldogs went 5-for-8 from the foul line to seal the win, while Xavier went 2-for-4 from the charity stripe.
