
Swimming Heads to Indiana State to Face Sycamores, Olivet Nazarene

Musketeers will face off in first dual of the season after opening with strong showing at Butler Invite
CINCINNATI – Xavier men's and women's swimming head Terre Haute, Ind. on Saturday afternoon, to face off with Indiana State and Olivet Nazarene in the first dual meet of the season. Events at the Vigo County Aquatic Center are slated to begin at 2 PM ET.

ABOUT INDIANA STATE |
- After an intra-squad dual, the Sycamores, who only field a women's squad, opened its second season of intercollegiate swimming at Illinois State on Sept. 30 where Indiana State fell, 185-114.
- Against the Cardinals, ISU saw a strong debut from junior transfer Martina Marks, who collected three first place finishes, iin the 200 butterfly (2:11.46), the 100 yard freestyle (54.31) and the 200 IM (2:11.98).
- ISU completed closed out its opening weekend against outside competition at the Butler Double Duals on Oct. 1, also the season-opener for the Musketeers. In the first match-up between the two programs, the Xavier women topped ISU, 135.00 to 88.00, in head-to-head scoring on the way to taking the top spot.
- Last weekend, Indiana State opened action on Friday, Oct. 6 at the Notre Dame Relays, taking fourth behind Louisville, Notre Dame and Oakland, while topping Olivet Nazarene.
- ISU closed out the weekend on Saturday Oct. 7 at Illinois-Chicago, falling 177-121 to the flames. Four Sycamores collected five first place finishes, including Kendall Hansen (100 backstroke - 59.32, 200 - 2:06.08), Martina Marks (200 yard butterfly - 2:10.95), Alex Malmborg (50 freestyle - 24.49) and Jacquie Price (100 butterfly - 58.84).
- ISU completed its inaugural season of swimming last February, finishing seventh at the MVC Swimming and Diving Championships.

ABOUT OLIVET NAZARENE |
- Olivet Nazarene opened its season on Friday, Oct. 6 at the Notre Dame Relays. The ONU men finished fourth of four, falling to Louisville, Notre Dame and Oakland. The ONU women took fifth of five, falling to Louisville, Notre Dame, Oakland and Indiana State.
- ONU's performances at Notre Dame were highlighted by six fifth place finishes against some of the strongest teams in NCAA D-I, in the non-traditional relay meet. On the women's side, the Tigers took fifth in the 3X100 backstroke, the 3X100 breaststroke and the 400 medley relays. On the men's side, ONU finished fifth in the 3X100 butterfly, the 3X100 backstroke and the 3X500 freestyle.
- ONU won the NAIA National Championships on both the men's and women's side last March.
- On the men's side, ONU returns NAIA Swimmer of the Year Magnus Poulsen who collected three individual national championships during his freshman year. Magnus Anderson also collected an individual national title.

WOMEN'S LAST TIME OUT |
- The Xavier women opened the season with a 5-0 performance at the Butler Double Duals, collecting wins over Saint Louis, Indiana State, Evansville, Butler and Valparaiso to take the top spot at the event for the third-straight year. Xavier's women collected the top spot in five events.
- Xavier opened the meet by taking the top two spots in the 200 medley relay, with the school record-holding 'A' squad of Paxtyn Drew, Becca Titterton, Caroline Gaertner and Emily Conners taking the top spot.
- Emily Conners continued where she left off after a stellar freshman year in freestyle sprints, winning the 50 free.
- Taylor Hogan left her mark on the program in her first meet as a Musketeer, winning the 400 IM and the 200 fly. Her time in the 200 fly, 2:01.79, set a new school record, knocking over three seconds off the previous program best.
- The Xavier women closed out the event with another relay win, in the 400 relay, with the quartet of Conners, Abigail Garner, Caroline Gaertner and Paxtyn Drew, who currently hold the school record in the event.

MEN'S LAST TIME OUT |
- The Xavier men opened the season with a second-place finish at the Butler Double Duals with team wins over Evansville and Valparaiso, falling narrowly to Saint Louis. The Musketeer men collected five first place finishes at the meet.
- Xavier's men took two of the top three spots in the 200 medley relay to open the event.
- Nick Mahoney touched the wall first in his first individual event as a Musketeer, winning the 1,000 freestyle.
- Alex Sironen also started off his rookie campaign with a win, in the 50 free, leading in three Musketeers in the top five.
- Freshman Christian Thomas also picked up a first place finish in the 100 free.
- Reigning BIG EAST Champion in the 200 breast, Matthew Dyer, took the top spot in the event.
- Xavier's men closed out the event with a win in the 400 free relay.
- Cameron Weese, who excels in breaststroke and individual medley, is a native of Highlands Ranch, Colo.

UP NEXT |
- Xavier will host its sole home meet of the season on Thursday, Oct. 19 when the Musketeers host Cleveland State at the O'Connor Sports Center at 5 PM.
- The Musketeers head back out on the road on Saturday, Oct. 21 when XU heads to Bowling Green to face the Falcons, as well as Tiffin University, at 1 PM.
