Musketeers stand in fourth place in BIG EAST; Championship Quarterfinal to be determined by tonight's matches
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Xavier women's soccer fell, 1-0, at Georgetown on Thursday afternoon, finishing the regular season at 8-7-4 overall and 4-3-2 in BIG EAST play. A tally off a free kick for Georgetown put the Hoyas ahead early in the second half. Xavier created multiple opportunities for the equalizer but were unable to find the back of the net.
Xavier, which solidified its place in the BIG EAST Championship last week, awaits the outcome of tonight's game to determine the opponent and location of the BIG EAST Quarterfinal match, to be played on Sunday, Oct. 29.

- The Musketeers stand in fourth in the BIG EAST currently, pending the outcome of tonight's games. Xavier will finish no lower than sixth, marking the highest conference finish since finish since 2005, when the Musketeers tied for fifth place in the Atlantic 10.
- A fourth place finish would be the highest for the Musketeers since finishing fourth in the A10 in 2003, also the last time the Musketeers competed in a conference tournament.
- Xavier finished the regular season with a program-best 14 points in the BIG EAST standings.
- Xavier held every BIG EAST opponent to one goal or fewer. Xavier limited 16 of 19 opponents in the 2017 regular season to a single goal or less.
- The loss the GU was the only setback in conference play that ended in regulation.
- Prior to the GU game, the last time the Musketeers lost in regulation was Sept. 8, a 3-1 setback at Duquesne.
- Against the Hoyas, Carrie Lewis and Sydney Schembri each recorded a shot in the second half as the Musketeers looked for the equalizer.
- Schembri also created an excellent opportunity midway through the second half, getting behind the Georgetown defense and into the penalty box before preseason BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year Elizabeth Wenger broke the play up just outside the six-yard box.
- Toni Bizzarro collected six saves with one goal against, playing the full 90 minute in-frame.
- Andie Kennard, Carly Alfano, Carrie Lewis, Skylar Groth and Abby O'Keefe played the full time for the Musketeers.

- Xavier secured its first bid to the BIG EAST Championship, and its first post-season appearance since 2003, last week with a win over Seton Hall.
- The Musketeers currently stand in fourth place, with an opportunity to host BIG EAST Championship games still on the table pending the results of today's games.
- The six-team tournament features first round byes for the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds. The quarterfinal games will occur on Sunday, Oct. 29, with the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds hosting.
