Xavier finishes in Fifth Place at the Xavier Invitational

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Six Musketeers finished in the top-20 as women's golf claimed fifth place at the Xavier Invitational, shooting a final round of 307 at the LPGA International on the Hills Course on Sunday.

The team was led by junior Mikayla Smith, freshman Andie Shukow, and freshman Ke'Asha Phillips as all three golfers shot a final round score of 76.

Smith and Shukow both finished T-16th with a three day total of 231.

Phillips finished tied for 20th, notching her first career top-20 finish. She rolled in 37 pars during the tournament, good for third in the field and the most by a Musketeer.

Xavier's individual competitors were the highlight for the weekend as all three finished inside the top-15.

Senior Grace Howie led the way for Xavier by shooting a final round of even par, 72, to finish tied for 10th. Howie led Xavier in par 3 scoring at +1 for the tournament.

Freshman Amy Kucera carded a final round score of 73 to move her into 13th place with a 3-day score of 228. Freshman Morgan Tinsley shot a final round +5, 77 to finish in a tie for 14th. Kucera and Tinsley lead the Musketeers in birdies with six apiece.

Xavier finished in fifth place at the invitational by shooting a three day total of 931 and one stroke behind fourth place South Alabama (930). Daytona State (886) edged out Stetson (892) by six strokes to win the Xavier Invitational. Seminole State round out the top three with 922.

Xavier is back in action for their final tournament of the fall schedule on Oct. 22-24 at the Palmetto Intercollegiate down at Turtle Point Golf Course in Kiawah Island, S.C.
