Xavier Uses Second Half Surge to Beat Rider, 101-75

Tyrique Jones has a career night, scoring 19 points for the Musketeers
CINCINNATI – The Musketeers defeated Rider 101-75 on Monday night with senior Trevon Bluiett scoring 26 points and grabbing nine rebounds. This is the second consecutive 100-point effort, the first time the Musketeers have hit the century mark in back-to-back games since the 2009-10 season.
• Senior Trevon Bluiett led the Musketeers with 13 points and five rebounds, while going 5-for-5 from the free throw line.
• Sophomore Tyrique Jones had nine points, off of 4-for-4 shooting, with his first six points coming off of three dunks. Jones also had four rebounds and two blocks in the half.
•The Musketeers out-rebounded the Broncs, 18-14, with 16 of their rebounds coming on the defensive side of the ball.
• Xavier's largest lead of the half came at the 2:34 mark where they led by 19, and they ended the half with a 44-34 lead over Rider.
• Rider came out strong in the second half by going on a 5-0 run, to cut the Xavier advantage to five, but a lay-up by J.P. Macura got Xavier on the board.
• Macura led the Musketeers in points during the half by scoring 12 points.
• The Musketeers went 16-for-18 from the free throw line during the half, and shot a total of 82.9 percent during the game.
• Xavier's largest lead of the game came during the second half, when they were up by 34 points at the 3:38 mark.
• Five Xavier players scored in double digits with Bluiett leading the group with 26 points, followed by Tyrique Jones with 19, J.P. Macura with 14, Paul Scruggs with 13 and Kaiser Gates with 12. Four or more players have scored in double figures in the first two games for the Musketeers.
• Tyrique Jones scored a career-high 19 points, surpassing the 16 points he scored at Creighton last season.
• This is Xavier's 32nd consecutive win versus a non-conference opponent at Cintas Center.
• The last time Xavier posted 100 points in back-to-back games was during the 2009-10 season when XU defeated Bowling Green 101-57 on Nov. 17, 2009) and Sacred Heart 105-65 on Nov. 21, 2009. Xavier also turned the trick in the 2007-08 season. XU topped Kansas State 103-77 on Dec. 31, 2007 followed by a 108-70 win over Virginia on Jan. 3, 2008. This is only the third time for XU in 22 seasons.
• The Musketeers travel to Madison, Wis., to take on the Wisconsin Badgers at 8:30 p.m. ET on Thursday, Nov. 16. The game will be broadcast on FS1.
