Musketeers Fall to No. 18/16 Blue Demons on Friday Night

Marquia Turner led the Musketeers with 16 points
CINCINNATI - No. 18/16 DePaul handed Xavier women's basketball a 70-43 loss on Friday evening. The Musketeers moved to 11-12 (3-9 BIG EAST), while the Blue Demons improved to 20-5 (12-1 BIG EAST).
• Marquia Turner led the Musketeers with 16 points, two shy of her all-time career high. The junior guard was 6-for-14 from the floor with three, 3-pointers. She also added a team-high three steals.
• Xavier had nine points off of turnovers, one point more than DePaul. Both teams recorded seven steals in the contest.
• DePaul held a 47-30 advantage on the glass. Leah Schaefer and Marquia Turner both had five rebounds for the Musketeers.
• Xavier jumped out early to score the first four points of the game, but DePaul took a 10-point lead at the two-minute mark and ended the quarter with a 20-10 lead.
• Shots were not falling for the Musketeers, with them only shooting 23.5 percent from the field, while the Blue Demons shot 66.7 percent of their shot attempts.
• The Blue Demons outscored the Musketeers, 17-8, in the frame - resulting in a halftime score of 39-18.
• At halftime, Xavier's leading scorer was Raeshaun Gaffney with five points. Maddison Blackwell added three assists, while Marquia Turner had three steals.
• The Musketeers came out strong with a 6-0 run to open the quarter. DePaul outscored Xavier, 16-15, during the quarter.
• Marquia Turner scored 11 points on 4-for-5 shooting in the quarter to pace the Musketeers.
• The Musketeers were outscored, 15-10, during the fourth quarter. Xavier held an 11-10 advantage on the glass with four players pulling down two rebounds each.
• Xavier returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 12 against Marquette. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. from Cintas Center with the game being aired on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
