Maddison Blackwell scored 20 points, her fourth career game with 20 or more points

CINCINNATI - Marquette handed Xavier women's basketball an 86-71 loss on Sunday afternoon. The Musketeers moved to 11-14 (3-11 BIG EAST), while the Golden Eagles improved to 19-7 (10-5 BIG EAST).

The Golden Eagles and Musketeers went back and forth for most of the game as it featured 12 ties and 12 lead changes. The Golden Eagles pulled away in the second half behind a third quarter that saw Marquette outscore Xavier, 26-13.

NOTEABLES

• Maddison Blackwell led the Musketeers with a season-high 20 points on 9-for-18 shooting. It was her fourth career game with 20 or more points.

• Marquia Turner led the team in rebounding with a career-high eight rebounds. Imani Partlow added seven rebounds.

• Raeshaun Gaffney scored 11 points, while Kindell Fincher and Imani Partlow both chipped in 10.

• Xavier had 19 points off the bench and 12 second chance points. Both squads scored 14 points off of turnovers.

• Both teams shot well from the free throw line as Xavier was 12-for-14 and Marquette was 13-for-15.

FIRST QUARTER

• Xavier and Marquette went shot for shot in the first quarter as it had six ties and six lead changes. Tied at 14, Marquette ended the quarter on a 5-1 run to take a 19-15 advantage.

• The Musketeers had three steals and four points off of turnovers.

SECOND QUARTER

• Xavier opened the quarter with six unanswered points and ended up outscoring Marquette, 21-15, resulting in a 36-34 lead at half.

• The Musketeers went on a 6-0 run to open the quarter and an 8-2 run to end the half.

• At half, Xavier's leading scorer was Maddison Blackwell with eight points and Kindell Fincher followed her with seven points.

• There were 11 lead changes and nine ties during the first half.

THIRD QUARTER

• The Golden Eagles hit 62.5 percent of their shot attempts in the quarter and outscored the Musketeers, 26-13.

• Xavier was limited to a .294 field-goal percentage in the quarter. Imani Partlow added six points on 2-for-4 shooting.

FOURTH QUARTER

• The Musketeers were outscored, 26-22, during the fourth quarter, which was their highest scoring quarter.

• Maddison Blackwell scored eight points and Raeshaun Gaffney chipped in seven.
