Musketeers Drop Final BIG EAST Road Game of Season at Georgetown

Hoyas top Xavier, 81-63, at McDonough Arena on Sunday afternoon
WASHINGTON – Xavier women's basketball dropped its final BIG EAST road game of the season at Georgetown, 81-63. Sunday's game was the Hoyas' Senior Day and Play4K Pink game.
The Musketeers moved to 11-16 (3-13 BIG EAST) on the year, while the Hoyas improved to 17-9 (9-7 BIG EAST).
• Imani Partlow led Xavier in scoring with 15 points on 6-for-6 shooting. She added seven rebounds and one block in 17 minutes of action off the bench.
• Raeshaun Gaffney scored 11 points, while pulling down a team-high eight rebounds. The senior guard chipped in three assists.
• Anniina Äijänen scored nine points, all in the second half, on 3-for-4 shooting. The junior forward added three rebounds in 18 minutes of action off the bench.
• Georgetown held a 36-35 advantage on the glass. The Musketeers dished out two more assists (14-12) than the Hoyas.
• Maddison Blackwell finished with nine points on 4-for-8 shooting. The senior forward also pulled down five rebounds.
• The Hoyas hit seven of their first 10 shots to build a 16-9 lead at the media timeout. Georgetown kept up the hot shooting, connecting on 58.8 percent (10-for-17) of its shot attempts to take a 23-11 advantage at the end of the quarter.
• Raeshaun Gaffney scored Xavier's first five points of the game. She was 2-for-3 from the floor.
• Xavier outscored Georgetown, 14-6, over the first eight and a half minutes of the quarter to get within four, 31-25. The Hoyas used a 5-0 run to close the half to take a 34-25 lead into the locker room.
• Raeshaun Gaffney led the Musketeers on both ends of the floor with seven points and five rebounds at the half. Imani Partlow added five points and three rebounds in five minutes of action off the bench.
• Georgetown scored 10 unanswered points to open the second half, taking a 44-25 advantage. The Hoyas led by as many as 20, 48-28, at the 5:38 mark before the Musketeers cut their deficit to 13 at end of the quarter, 59-46.
• Both teams shot well in the frame as Georgetown hit 71.4 percent (10-for-14) of its shot attempts and Xavier connected on 64.3 percent (9-for-14) of its field goals.
• Anniina Äijänen scored six points off the bench on 2-for-3 shooting.
• Xavier battled back to get within 12 twice in the final quarter, but the Hoyas maintained their double-figure lead for the remainder of the game – posting the 81-63 victory. Georgetown forced 19 turnovers in the game, turning the miscues into 18 points.
• Xavier wraps up BIG EAST regular-season action with back-to-back games at Cintas Center on Feb. 24-26. The Musketeers open the homestand against Creighton on Friday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. with the game being aired nationally on FS2.
