Turner Matches Career High in Home Loss to RV/No. 25 Creighton

The junior guard led all scorers with 18 points on Friday night
CINCINNATI – Junior guard Marquia Turner scored a game-high 18 points on Friday as the Xavier women's basketball team dropped a 67-57 contest to RV/No. 25 Creighton at Cintas Center.
The Musketeers moved to 11-17 (3-14 BIG EAST), while the Bluejays (21-6, 15-2 BIG EAST) won their seventh straight game.
• Marquia Turner matched her career high in scoring with 18 points on 6-for-12 shooting. She was also 3-for-5 from behind the arc. She previously scored 18 points on Dec. 1, 2016 against Delaware State.
• Maddison Blackwell was the only other Musketeer in double figures with 10 points on 4-for-5 shooting. The senior forward added three rebounds, two assists, two blocks and two steals.
• Anniina Äijänen chipped in seven points, while Kindell Fincher and Imani Partlow both finished with six points. Leah Schaefer and Raeshaun Gaffney led the team in assists with three each.
• Creighton held a 38-30 advantage on the glass. Leah Schaefer led Xavier with seven rebounds, while Imani Parlow added five.
• Xavier posted a .449 field-goal percentage, while limiting the Bluejays to a .414 clip. Creighton hit 85.7 percent (12-for-14) of its free throws and Xavier connected on 38.9 percent (7-for-18) of its free throws.
• Both teams finished with five blocks. Xavier also held a 6-4 advantage in steals.
• The opening half featured six lead changes and one tie. Neither team led by more than two possessions with Xavier holding its largest lead, 14-9, at the 3:23 mark in the first quarter.
• Creighton outscored Xavier 18-16 in the first quarter. The Musketeers outscored the Bluejays, 13-8, in the second quarter to take a 29-26 advantage into the locker room. Xavier ended the half on a 10-4 run with Anniina Äijänen scoring four points during the run.
• Marquia Turner led Xavier with nine points at the break on 3-for-6 shooting. She had three 3-pointers. Anniina Äijänen added seven points.
• The Musketeers held a 22-18 advantage on the glass with Imani Partlow pacing the team with five rebounds. Xavier also had four blocks with Maddison Blackwell leading the squad with two.
• Xavier scored four unanswered points to open the half, taking its largest lead of the game, 33-26, at the 8:55 mark in the third quarter. Creighton responded by outscoring Xavier, 16-4, over the next five minutes.
• The Musketeers tied game at 43 with 1:06 left in the third quarter before the Bluejays hit a jumper with six seconds on the clock to take a two-point lead into the final frame.
• Creighton never relinquished its lead behind a .636 field-goal percentage (7-for-11) in the final stanza. The Bluejays outscored Xavier, 22-14, in the fourth quarter.
• Xavier closes out regular-season action on Sunday, Feb. 26 against Providence. Tip-off is slated for 11:30 a.m. with the game being aired on the BIG EAST Digital Network. The game will also serve as Senior Day for Leah Schaefer, Maddison Blackwell, Raeshaun Gaffney and Martha Thompson.
