Zachary Polk wins the event for the second straight year; sets school record with final jump
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Zachary Polk defended his title in the long jump at the 2017 BIG EAST Indoor Track and Field Championships as the Musketeers wrapped up day one action at the championships meet. The two-day meet is being held at the Ocean Breeze Track and Field Athletic Complex.
Â
"Both teams brought a ton of energy to the meet for day one. On the women's side, I told them in the team meeting that they should expect the unexpected. Several of our girls bought into that philosophy, which allowed us to send a few more to finals then what was originally projected. Our men's team is tracking right where they need to be in order to reach our goals. Although we have a lot that needs to go right, we have enough guys that made the finals to be able to double our score from last year."Â

Zachary Polk - Long Jump
"The highlight of the day was Zach winning the long jump on his final jump. He entered the final in 2nd place, but had a huge school record jump on his last jump in the final. He's now won back-to-back indoor long jump championships."
Distance Medley Relay
"The men's DMR had a tough break with Josh pulling his hamstring during the 400 leg. Fortunately, he was able to limp through the next 300 meters to get the stick around so we could finish the race as a team. He showed a lot of guts and ran through a lot of pain to give his teammates a shot."
Nolan Daniels - 800-meter run
"Nolan made the finals of the 800 and looked very strong. He really only had to run hard over the last 200 meters to secure his auto bid for the final."
Grant Parrelli - One mile run
"Grant ran hard from the gun and didn't let the tactical race happening behind him effect his finish. He followed the plan that I gave him and forced the field to chase him."
