Xavier Earns 11 Seed in NCAA Tournament, Will Face 6 Seed Maryland

Musketeers and Terps will face off in Orlando on Thursday, March 16, time TBA
CINCINNATI - The Xavier Musketeers (21-13, 9-9 BIG EAST) are headed to the 2017 NCAA Tournament, earning an at-large bid as the No. 11-seed in the West Region. The Musketeers will face off against Maryland in the First Round on Thursday, March 16Â at the Amway Center in Orlando, Fla. The Musketeers and the Terrapins will face off at 6:50 p.m. on TNT.
This is the fourth time the Musketeers have been a 11-seed in the NCAA Tournament, and the first time since the 2000-01 season. This is the fourth-straight year the Musketeers have earned an NCAA Tournament berth, and the 11th time in the last 12 years, one of eight schools which can claim this.
The Maryland Terrapins are a No. 6 seed after finishing the season 24-8 overall and finished 12-6 in the Big 10, finishing the season ranked No. 25 in the AP Poll. The Terps finished third in the Big 10 during the regular season, and fell in the quarterfinals of the Big 10 Tournament to Northwestern, 72-64. The Musketeers are 0-2 all time against Maryland, with the last match-up occurring in the 2003 NCAA Tournament Second Round.
Xavier played 17 games against teams which earned NCAA Tournament berths this season, including non-conference matchups against Baylor, Wake Forest and Cincinnati, as well as games against BIG EAST opponents Villanova, Marquette, Providence, Butler, Seton Hall and Creighton. Including Xavier, seven of the 10 BIG EAST Teams earned a spot in the tournament.
Xavier has won eight-straight neutral site games in the state of Florida, including six straight in Orlando.
