Musketeers top Raiders, 7-4, on Tuesday afternoon at Hayden Field

CINCINNATI – Xavier baseball hit four home runs and got a solid start on the mound from senior Trent Astle to upend Wright State, 7-4, at Hayden Field on Tuesday afternoon.

The win was the Musketeers' fourth in row as the team improved to 11-10 on the year. Wright State dropped to 12-7 on the season.

XU AT THE PLATE

• Leadoff hitter Mitch Gallagher led the team at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three runs and an RBI. Sam Flamini (2-for-4, 2RBI, R, HR) and Conor Grammes (2-for-3, RBI) both added multi-hit performances.
• Rylan Bannon went 1-for-3 with two RBI, a run and a stolen base. He is now 6-for-6 on the year on the base paths.
• Xavier had four more hits (10-6) than Wright State and left two more runners on base (6-4). Both teams committed one error.

XU ON THE MOUND

• Trent Astle (2-1) posted the win as the senior went 6.1 innings. He threw six strikeouts and allowed four hits and three runs.
• Brad Kirschner came out of the bullpen to throw 1.2 innings of relief. He threw two strikeouts and surrendered one hit.
• Taylor Williams pitched the final inning. He had one strikeout and allowed one hit, a home run to right field.

HOW XU SCORED

FIRST INNING: Sam Flamini hit a solo home run to left field – his first of the season – to give the Musketeers their first run of the game. Rylan Bannon hit a two-run shot to left later in the frame to give Xavier an early 3-0 lead.
FOURTH INNING: Nate Monastra crossed home plate on a Conor Grammes sacrifice fly to right field.
FIFTH INNING: Sam Flamini hit an RBI single down the left field line to score Mitch Gallagher.
SIXTH INNING: Nate Monastra hit a solo home run to down the left field line.
SEVENTH INNING: Mitch Gallagher hit his first home run of the season with a shot over the left-field fence.

UP NEXT

Xavier returns to action on March 24-26 at Hayden Field for a three-game series with Illinois State. Game one of the series is slated for 3 p.m. on Friday.
