Musketeers Set Three School Records at Raleigh Relays

Xavier returns to action at Oliver Nikoloff Classic on March 31 - April 1
RALEIGH, N.C. - Xavier track and field set three school records at the Raleigh Relays as the Musketeers wrapped up action at the two-day meet on Saturday. The meet was hosted by North Carolina State University. Â
Â
"The team performed well this weekend, leaving Raleigh with three school records and numerous personal best marks. Â When I first took over the program four years ago we used to go to meets like the Raleigh Relays and have one or two performances that stood out. Â Now we're able to not only get more athletes into the meet but the group that we're bringing down is starting to make an impact."

"Polk placed 5th in the long jump. Although he didn't reach the distance goal we had for him, he competed well in a strong field of jumpers."
"Daniels ran well in the 800, placing 12th overall in a tactical race that he had to lead from the start. I was just happy to get him in the open 800 since they only take the top 24 entries. Now that he's had his first competitive 800 during the outdoor season, I think he'll be able to build momentum and start lowering his times back down to where they were during indoor."
"I was happy with how the men's 4x800 ran today. Their time of 7:43 is a solid start for them for outdoor track. I had freshman Kevin Menyes lead off so that he would have a large group to judge his pace over the first 400. It worked out really well and put us in a position to chase the pack over the next three legs. Shepherd, Stapleton and Parrelli all did a great job or running down teams during their legs."
"Platt had a personal best in the 100 on day one, running 10.73 to place 8th overall."
"In one of the most exciting events of the weekend, the men's 4x100 broke the school record with a 41.19 to place 5th. Taylor ran a great leadoff leg but didn't have a great handoff to Polk. Polk maintained his composure, still got the stick within the zone and was able to start chasing down the leaders. Dimitroff ran a great third leg, making up most of the ground on the field before handing off to Platt. Once Platt got the stick it was all over. He ran away from the field within the first 20 meters and never looked back. Today was a huge step in the right direction for our men's 4x100 and their quest to make NCAA's this year."Â
Â
"Sydney Larkin has been consistently good lately in the 400. She didn't get out hard enough in the first 100 but she closed really well over the final 200.
If she can put both sections of the race together over the next few weeks, she will have the breakthrough that she's been waiting for."
"Both Hines and Hoyos ran personal bests in the 1500. Hines has been waiting a few years to break the 4:40 barrier and was able to dip under on Friday. She's done a great job adjusting to life in the US and our training program at Xavier. I'm excited to see what she can do over the final few weeks of the season. Although Hoyos ran a PR, we know she's got a lot more left in the tank. She made a move at the 800 mark in an already fast race that left her struggling to keep her momentum up during the final 300 of the race. Once she cleans up her race tactics she will drop 7-8 seconds easily."
"Genco dropped 18 seconds in the 3000m steeple for a new personal best. She ran really aggressive from the gun, looked great on all of her barrier jumps and water jump. Within a few weeks she'll be able to close as well as she opened at Raleigh which put her in contention for an NCAA qualifying mark."
Â
"Kara Robinson broke the school record in the 400m hurdles with a 64.14. She's made great progress in this event over the past year and I see this as her main focus over the next few years. Kara also ran well in the 100m hurdles, running just shy of her personal best."
Â
"The women's 4x1500 broke the school record by 37 seconds to place 4th overall. Although this isn't an event we race very often, the margin that the girls broke the record by shows the progress that our mid distance group has made in the past few years."
